A Discrete-Continuous PSO for the Optimal Integration of D-STATCOMs into Electrical Distribution Systems by Considering Annual Power Loss and Investment Costs

Currently, with the quick increase in global population, energetic crisis, environmental problematic, and development of power electronic devices generated need to include new technologies for supporting potentiating electrical distributions systems; Distribution Static Compensators (D-STATCOMs) are highly used this task due advantages that technology presents: reduction loss, operation costs, chargeability branches, among others. The possibility kind within system has shown develop efficient methodologies from point view quality solution, repeatability processing times by considering investment costs as well technical conditions grids under a scenario variable demand then representing real grid. With aim propose solution requirement, paper presents Discrete-Continuous Particle Swarm Optimization (DCPSO) algorithm solve problem optimal integration D-STATCOMs into Electrical Systems (EDSs). In case, objective function is minimization annual operating using weighted mono-objective composed loss cost including all constraints associated an EDS distributed reactive compensation environmentinside mathematical formulation. order evaluate effectiveness robustness proposed method, study implemented two tests systems (i.e., 33- 69-bus), four comparison methods, different considerations related inclusion EDSs. Furthermore, evaluating obtained each methods used, was executed 100 Matlab software. results demonstrated DCPSO/HSA methodology achieved best trade-off between time, low standard deviation values EDSs any size.
